The Prewetts were a family of ten, living in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, who asked my Interior Design Studio 2 class to design their living room, dining room and kitchen. They appreciated the traditional Arts and Crafts style of design, but wanted a modernized version. The open floor plan between the kitchen, dining room and living room promoted communication within the family and strengthened their family bond. I created a comfortable environment for the Prewett family, taking the client’s wishes into consideration, suiting their needs.
I used earth tones for paint colors and chose Arts and Crafts style furniture and custom kitchen cabinetry. The custom wood molding I chose for the three rooms would be stained the same color as their existing furniture and the kitchen cabinets. I also chose to install stained glass windows in three to four places, including the front door and select windows in the living and dining rooms. The kitchen was outfitted with two dishwashers, a double oven, two sinks, and varying countertop heights, all allowing for multiple cooks.
